Born in Hope, Arkansas, on August 24, 1955, Michael Dale Huckabee has held diverse roles as a minister, political official, and media personality. His career began in local ministry and broadcasting before he transitioned into state politics, eventually rising to become the 44th governor of Arkansas and serving as the United States ambassador to Israel beginning in 2025.
Early Life and Ministry
The son of Dorsey Wiles Huckabee and Mae Elder Huckabee, he attended Hope High School before graduating from Ouachita Baptist University in 1978 with a bachelor's degree in religion. He briefly attended Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Before entering politics, he served as a pastor at Immanuel Baptist Church in Pine Bluff and Beech Street First Baptist Church in Texarkana. He also presided over the Arkansas Baptist State Convention from 1989 to 1991.

In 1992, he entered his first political race, unsuccessfully challenging Senator Dale Bumpers. The following year, he won a special election to become the Lieutenant Governor of Arkansas, serving from 1993 to 1996. He subsequently served as the state's governor for over a decade, from 1996 until 2007. Later, he sought the Republican nomination for the presidency in both 2008 and 2016.
Media and Diplomatic Service
Outside of elected office, he built a career as a radio personality and television host, including programs on Fox News and TBN. Following his tenure in private media, he returned to public service in 2025 as the United States ambassador to Israel. He was sworn into this diplomatic role on April 9, 2025, and formally presented his credentials to President Isaac Herzog later that month.
