Ahtisaari left Nokia in 2006 to collaborate with former Nokia CEO Pekka Ala-Pietilä on the launch of Blyk, an advertisement-supported mobile network. By 2007, he took on the roles of founding investor and CEO at the travel platform Dopplr. Following its acquisition by Nokia in 2009, he returned to the organization, serving as Head of Product Design until September 2013. In January 2012, he was named a member of the Nokia leadership team. He ultimately resigned from the corporation when Microsoft acquired its devices business.

Beyond his corporate roles, Ahtisaari has worked as a Director's Fellow at the MIT Media Lab and co-founded Sync Project, which was acquired by Bose in 2018.
