Early Career and Breakthrough
Podolski began his football development at FC 07 Bergheim before joining 1. FC Köln at age ten. He made his Bundesliga debut for the senior team on 22 November 2003. After limited playing time, he returned to 1. FC Köln in July 2009 for an identical fee. During his second stint, he scored his 50th Bundesliga goal in March 2011 and maintained a high scoring rate until his departure following the 2011–12 season.
International Milestones
Podolski made his senior national debut in 2004. He participated in seven major tournaments, totaling 49 goals for Germany. In May 2013, he set a record for the fastest goal in the history of the German national team, scoring against Ecuador after nine seconds. He retired from international play on 22 March 2017 after captaining the squad to a victory over England.
