Luca Zidane

French-Algerian footballer (born 1998)

Luca Zinedine Zidane began his professional tenure as a goalkeeper within the Real Madrid youth system at age six in 2004. A dual citizen of France and Algeria, his career has spanned multiple divisions in Spanish football, ultimately leading to a shift in his international representation to the Algeria senior national team in 2025.

Early Development and Real Madrid

Born on 13 May 1998 in Aix-en-Provence, Zidane is the son of professional dancer Veronique Fernández and Zinedine Zidane. He is the second of four brothers, all of whom pursued professional football. Zidane progressed through the Real Madrid academy and Castilla reserve side. He made his professional debut for the senior team on 19 May 2018, appearing in a 2–2 La Liga draw against Villarreal CF.

Spanish Club Career

Following his time at Real Madrid, Zidane moved to Segunda División clubs. He joined Racing Santander on loan in July 2019, followed by a permanent move to Rayo Vallecano in October 2020. During his tenure at Rayo Vallecano, he replaced an ejected teammate to help secure promotion to the top flight. Subsequently, he played for Eibar under a contract renewed until 2026, and joined Granada in 2024. As of August 2026, he is signed to Leganés.

International Representation

Zidane initially represented France at the youth level, including the 2015 UEFA European Under-17 Championship winning squad. In 2025, FIFA approved his request to switch his sporting nationality to Algeria. He made his debut for the Algeria senior team in a 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification match against Uganda. He was subsequently named to the Algeria squads for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
