The cooperative theatre company Teatre Lliure of Barcelona was co-founded by Lluís Homar in 1976, marking a pivotal shift in his career from early stage performances toward long-term institutional leadership. Formative Years and Early Career
Born in Barcelona on 20 April 1957, Homar attended Escuelas Homar in Horta and served as an altar boy at Sant Joan d’Horta. His academic trajectory included law studies at the Autonomous University of Barcelona alongside theatre courses at the Institut del Teatre. His professional debut occurred in 1974 during a production of Othello directed by Angel Carmona. Shortly thereafter, he became involved with the Teatre del Escorpi, performing in pieces such as Terra Baixa and Quiriquibú.

During his tenure at Teatre Lliure, Homar participated in over 30 plays and served as artistic director between 1992 and 1998. His screen presence began to emerge in the 1981 adaptation of Mercé Rodoreda's novella, The Time of the Doves, where he performed opposite Silvia Munt. He later collaborated extensively with Pedro Almodóvar on films including Bad Education and Broken Embraces.
Recognitions and Television Roles
Homar earned industry recognition for his supporting roles, notably as the robot Max in Kike Maíllo's 2011 film Eva, which secured him both a Goya Award and a Gaudí Award. His television portfolio includes the portrayal of King Juan Carlos I in the mini-series 23-F: El día más difícil del Rey, as well as appearances in Hispania, la leyenda and Imperium. In 2016, the Gijón International Film Festival presented him with the Nacho Martinez Award.
