The Whitehead Prize awarded to Lasse Rempe in 2010 recognized his specific investigations into the escaping set for entire functions. A mathematician based in Germany, he maintains an active career as a university teacher and researcher. His work focuses primarily on holomorphic dynamics and function theory, fields that examine the behavior of complex analytical systems.
Academic Foundation
Born in 1978 in Kiel, Rempe completed his undergraduate and doctoral studies within the German university system. He also attended Stony Brook University, where he received a Master of Arts degree in mathematics in 2000. These formative years established the technical groundwork for his subsequent career in complex dynamics.

Rempe held a long-term position at the University of Liverpool from 2006 until 2024. During the latter years of this tenure, between 2020 and 2024, he occupied the Shipowners' Chair of Pure Mathematics. Following his time in Liverpool, he transitioned to the Department of Mathematics at the University of Manchester, where he currently serves as a Professor of Pure Mathematics. Between 2012 and 2020, he was known professionally as Lasse Rempe-Gillen.
Professional Recognition
His research contributions have earned several notable distinctions within the mathematical community. In addition to the Whitehead Prize, he received the Philip Leverhulme Prize in 2012. By 2017, he was elected as a Fellow of the American Mathematical Society, an honor acknowledging his research in function theory and his efforts in communicating complex mathematical concepts to a wider audience. He has also appeared as a voiceover contributor for a BBC feature examining how dynamical systems generate specific visual art.
