Early Life and Training
Born Gulbakhram, she spent part of her youth in an orphanage due to her family's financial instability. She moved to Almaty at age twelve to attend a boarding school. Her interest in performance began early, fostered by listening to her father, Zhasyn, a shoemaker who had previously performed as a singer. Between 1925 and 1928, she studied at the Almaty Pedagogical College, while concurrently engaging in amateur musical productions.

In 1930, she joined the studio of the Kazakh Drama Theater, now named after M.O. Auezov. Despite facing political scrutiny and false accusations regarding her father's alleged wealth, she persisted in her theatrical education. Her transition from supporting roles to leading parts occurred quickly within the troupe. In 1933, she joined the Musical Theater, where she received formal vocal training from instructors K. A. Dianti and V. A. Smyslovskaya.
Political and Public Service
Beyond her stage presence, she maintained an active role in the political life of the Kazakh SSR. She served as a deputy of the Supreme Soviet for multiple convocations starting in 1938. By 1943, she had become a member of the CPSU (b). Her public commitments extended to her tenure on the State Prize Committee and membership in the Soviet Peace Committee.
Final Years
The singer's health declined following the tragic death of her youngest daughter, Karshyga, in a childhood accident. In June 1957, while in Moscow for a concert, she suffered an intracerebral hemorrhage. She was found dead in her hotel room on 6 June at the age of 45. Her remains were returned to Almaty, where she was interred at the Central Cemetery.
