Early Career and Domestic Success
Born in Perm in 1977, Zyryanov began his professional journey with Amkar Perm in 1994. During his tenure there, he played 171 league matches and contributed 48 goals. His performance helped the team secure the Russian Second Division title in 1998. In 2000, he transferred to Torpedo Moscow. After an initial period with the reserve team, he became a consistent presence in the first squad, making 164 league appearances and scoring nine goals.

Zyryanov joined Zenit Saint Petersburg in 2007, where his career reached new levels. Under coach Dick Advocaat, he functioned as a holding midfielder who kept the ball moving efficiently. His output in 2007 earned him the Russian Footballer of the Year award from both Futbol and Sport-Express. His European success included scoring against Bayern Munich in the 2007–08 UEFA Cup semi-finals and netting the second goal in the final against Rangers, which cemented a 2–0 victory. He won the Russian Premier League titles in 2007, 2010, and the 2011–12 season, alongside the 2009–10 Russian Cup.
International Recognition and Coaching
Beyond his domestic achievements, Zyryanov was a key figure for the Russian national team. His performance in the 2008 UEFA European Championship resulted in him being named to the Team of the Tournament. Following the conclusion of his playing contract with Zenit, he briefly served as a player-coach for the farm club Zenit-2 St. Petersburg before retiring as a player on 27 December 2017 to focus on managing the team.
