Konstantin Valkov

The selection of Konstantin Anatolyevich Valkov into the TsPK-12 cosmonaut group in 1997 marked a significant pivot point in his professional trajectory. Born in Kamensk-Uralsky in 1971, he emerged from the rigorous structures of the Russian military system to pursue specialized training at the Yuri Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center, aiming for a career within the orbital exploration program.

Military Foundation

Valkov built his initial professional experience within the Russian Air Force. He attended the Barnaul Military Aviation High School, completing his studies there in 1994. This academic background provided him with the requisite skills to function as an aircraft pilot, an occupation for which he eventually earned a formal class qualification. His service record includes reaching the rank of colonel.

Cosmonaut Training and Tenure

In 1997, Valkov was chosen for the TsPK-12 cosmonaut contingent. The following two years were dedicated to intensive basic instruction at the Yuri Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center. This period of preparation was intended to equip him for potential missions and the technical demands of space flight, utilizing his established foundation as a pilot within the Russian military framework.

Retirement from Service

Despite his extensive training and background in aeronautics, Valkov did not participate in an orbital flight during his tenure as a cosmonaut. His active status within the cosmonaut program concluded in 2012 when he retired from the organization. Following this departure, his records identify him primarily by his previous military contributions and his training as an astronaut.
