There, he scored 26 league goals and earned Player of the Season honors. A subsequent transfer to Heerenveen solidified his reputation; he scored 17 goals in 31 matches during his first season, securing qualification for the 2005–06 UEFA Cup.
Stardom at Ajax
In January 2006, Huntelaar joined Ajax for a fee involving nine million euros. He immediately impacted the club, finishing as the Eredivisie's top scorer with 33 league goals that season.
