Kim Dae-jung (1924–2009) was the 8th President of the Republic of Korea. He was born in Hauido on 6 January 1924. He died in Severance Hospital on 18 August 2009, at the age of 85.
Kim held office as President of South Korea (1998–2003), Member of the National Assembly of South Korea (1988–1992), Member of the National Assembly of South Korea (1971–1972) and Member of the National Assembly of South Korea (1963–1971). He was attached to University of Cambridge.
Kim received Nobel Peace Prize (2000), Knight Grand Cross of the Order of the Bath, Knight Grand Cross of the Order of St Michael and St George, Rafto Prize (2000) and Bruno Kreisky Award for Services to Human Rights. He studied at Ha-ui Elementary School and Mokpo Bukkyo Elementary School.
Kim was the son of Kim Won Sik. He married Cha Yong-ae and Lee Hui-ho. He had three recorded children, Kim Hong-gul, Kim Hong-il and Kim Hong-eop. He is recorded as following Catholicism. The recorded cause of death is pneumonia.
