Early Career and Commercials
Before gaining recognition for his lead roles, Sorbo pursued an education at the University of Minnesota and Minnesota State University Moorhead, where he studied marketing and advertising. To fund his studies, he worked as a print and television model. Throughout the 1980s, he traveled across Europe and Australia appearing in over 150 commercials. His television debut occurred in 1986 on the soap opera Santa Barbara, followed by a 1988 appearance on the sitcom 1st & Ten.

In 1993, Sorbo secured his breakthrough as the title character in a series of Universal Television films, which led to the syndication of Hercules: The Legendary Journeys from 1995 to 1999. Filmed in New Zealand, the show became an international ratings success. Following this, he starred as Captain Dylan Hunt in the science-fiction series Andromeda between 2000 and 2005. During his earlier years, he narrowly missed roles in Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman and The X-Files.
Transition to Christian Cinema
Sorbo shifted toward producing and performing in Christian-themed films, notably the 2014 release God's Not Dead, where he portrayed an atheist professor. In 2017, he directed and starred in Let There Be Light alongside Sean Hannity. His filmography also includes the 1997 fantasy film Kull the Conqueror, the 2008 spoof Meet the Spartans, and the 2024 biopic Reagan, in which he appeared alongside Dennis Quaid.
