Early Life and Education
Born in 1980 in Wimbledon, Kemi Badenoch spent her early childhood in Nigeria and the United States before returning to the United Kingdom at age 16. She pursued higher education at the University of Sussex, earning a Master of Engineering degree in 2003. She later studied law at Birkbeck, University of London, graduating with a Bachelor of Laws in 2009 and eventually becoming a Fellow of the institution in 2018.

Before her full-time entry into politics, Badenoch worked in the information technology and financial sectors. She was employed as a software developer at Logica from 2003 to 2006. Following this, she transitioned to financial services, serving as an associate director at the private bank Coutts between 2006 and 2013. She also worked as a digital director for The Spectator from 2015 to 2016.
Political Progression
Badenoch joined the Conservative Party in 2005. After an unsuccessful bid for a London Assembly seat in 2012, she became a member of the London Assembly in 2015, serving until 2017. In the 2017 general election, she was elected as a member of the 57th Parliament of the United Kingdom. Her ministerial career included roles as Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Children and Families, Minister of State for Local Government, Faith and Communities, and President of the Board of Trade.
