Early Career and Education
Born in London in 1967, she attended Highbury Fields School before earning a Bachelor of Science from the University of East London. She holds a postgraduate diploma from the University of London and qualified as a chartered accountant with the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales in 1994. Her professional history began in the United Kingdom, where she worked at BT Group between 1989 and 1990, followed by roles at Goodman Jones and the London Underground from 1994 until 2000.

Before entering public service, she held senior positions at PricewaterhouseCoopers and Chapel Hill Denham Management, where she became managing director in 2010. She also served as managing director at Quo Vadis Partnership. In 2011, she transitioned to government work, serving as Ogun State's Commissioner of Finance until 2015. During this tenure, she participated in Governor Ibikunle Amosun's Mission to Build.
Ministerial Tenure and Institutional Roles
As Minister of Finance, she represented Nigeria in various international capacities, including serving as an ex-officio member of the Board of Governors for both the African Development Bank and the World Bank. She was also elected chairman of the Board of the African Export–Import Bank, succeeding Ndagijimana Uzziel. In 2018, she joined the All Progressives Congress. Her government service concluded in September 2018 following her resignation.
Legal Developments
In 2021, the Abuja Division of the Federal High Court issued a judgment regarding her status and mandatory national service requirements. The court determined that as a British citizen at the time of her graduation, she did not fall under the mandate for such participation, and later, as a Nigerian citizen over the age of 30, she remained ineligible.
