Academic and Early Professional Trajectory
Born in 1955 in the village of Taşlıpınar, Şahin received his early education in Beyşehir and Konya. In 1973, he relocated to Germany on a scholarship intended for his studies at RWTH Aachen University. Sponsored by the state-owned mining company Etibank, he focused his academic efforts on metallurgical engineering, completing his Diplom degree in 1982. Following the success of Santex Moden, Şahin expanded his operations to incorporate 27 production and trading facilities. These assets are consolidated under Şahinler Holding, headquartered in Turkey. The organizational scope of his business interests is broad, encompassing integrated textile manufacturing, steam and electric power generation, building contracting, and a network of hotels located in the Antalya Province. The group maintains a workforce of approximately 10,000 employees and operates subsidiaries across numerous nations, including the Netherlands, Austria, France, Switzerland, Spain, Romania, Bulgaria, Slovenia, and the United Kingdom.
Foundation Work and Institutional Leadership
Beyond his corporate activities, Şahin has held several leadership roles in professional and charitable organizations. In 1987, he established the Şahinler Foundation to fund scholarships and oversee the construction of schools. His involvement in public service includes serving as the president of the TEMA Foundation in Aachen, an organization focused on erosion control and nature conservation. He has chaired the German-Turkish Chamber of Commerce and the Association of Turkish Businesspeople in Europe, and since 2023, he has represented Turkish-German interests at the World Turkish Business Council.
Public Recognition and Literature
His entrepreneurial contributions have been marked by various honors, including the 1997 businessman of the year awards from Schitag Ernst & Young and Manager magazine. In 2000, he received the Order of Merit of Turkey and an honorary doctorate from Selçuk University. In 2014, he was awarded the Officer's Cross of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany. He has documented his professional experiences in three books, including his 2000 autobiography, The Falcon at the Summit, and his 2025 work, From Zero to the Summit.
