Katie Couric

Formative Years and Education

Born in 1957 in Arlington County, Virginia, Couric attended Williamsburg Middle School and Yorktown High School before enrolling at the University of Virginia. During her undergraduate studies at the College of Arts and Sciences, she participated in student journalism at The Cavalier Daily. She graduated in 1979, having developed an early interest in the media industry through local internships.

Broadcasting Career

Couric began her professional life at the ABC News bureau in Washington, D.C., followed by a tenure as an assignment editor at CNN. She later worked for WTVJ in Miami and WRC-TV in Washington. Her national profile rose during her long tenure at NBC News from 1989 to 2006, where she served as a national political correspondent and later as the co-anchor of Today. In 2006, she moved to CBS News to anchor the CBS Evening News and serve as a correspondent for 60 Minutes. Following her departure from CBS in 2011, she spent three years at ABC News.

Diverse Media Roles

Beyond traditional news anchoring, Couric has engaged in various multimedia ventures. She hosted the syndicated daytime talk show Katie from 2012 to 2014 and served as the Global News Anchor for Yahoo News between 2013 and 2017. Her professional repertoire extends to podcasting and authorship, including the production of children's literature. In 2021, she reached another historical benchmark by becoming the first woman to serve as a guest host for the American game show Jeopardy!.
