He held positions as a member of the Congress of Deputies across various terms between 1982 and 2004. In 1996, he was sworn in as Prime Minister, a role he maintained until 2004. His domestic agenda focused on market liberalization, privatization of state-owned companies, and deregulation.
Economic and Foreign Policy
During his administration, Spain met the requirements to join the eurozone as the national economy experienced growth. Throughout his time in government, he navigated complex internal security challenges, including the threat posed by the separatist group ETA.
Post-Governmental Activity
Since leaving the premiership in 2004, Aznar has remained active in professional and advisory capacities. He served as a member of the Council of State and has acted as a director for News Corp.
