Born in 1975 in El Puerto de Santa María, Pinto emerged from the youth system at Real Betis. During his six-year tenure, he served primarily as the backup to Víctor Valdés. During an October 2010 Champions League match against Copenhagen, Pinto faced UEFA disciplinary action for improper conduct. Officials alleged he mimicked a whistle to deceive an opponent, César Santin, into believing the referee had stopped play. While the referee allowed play to continue, subsequent video analysis led to a two-match suspension for the goalkeeper. Later, in 2011, he received a red card for an altercation involving match officials and players during a semi-final fixture against Real Madrid.
