He served consecutive sessions from 1986 to 1989, 1993 to 1996, 1996 to 2000, 2000 to 2004, and finally from 2004 to 2008. During these decades, he rose through party ranks, eventually serving as the Secretary General of the PSOE from 2000 until 2012.
Prime Ministerial Tenure
Elected as Prime Minister in 2004 and re-elected in 2008, his administration oversaw the withdrawal of Spanish military forces from the Iraq war and the subsequent deployment of troops to Afghanistan.
