Early Career in South America
Córdoba launched his professional career in 1993 with the Colombian Serie B side Deportivo Rionegro. His performances led to a 1996 transfer to Atlético Nacional, a major club in his home country. In 1998, he moved to Argentina to compete for San Lorenzo. His reputation grew during this period, culminating in a selection for the 1999 South American Team of the Year.

In January 2000, Inter Milan acquired Córdoba for €16 million, bypassing interest from Real Madrid. He became a defensive fixture at the San Siro, often pairing with Marco Materazzi. He served as vice-captain under Javier Zanetti and represented the club for 13 years. During his tenure, Inter won five Serie A titles, four Coppa Italia trophies, three Supercoppa Italiana titles, the UEFA Champions League, and the 2010 FIFA Club World Cup. His final appearance occurred on 6 May 2012.
International Representation
Córdoba made his international debut for Colombia and appeared at the 1998 FIFA World Cup. He took the number 2 shirt, previously worn by Andrés Escobar. Beyond his 2001 Copa América success, he participated in the 2003 FIFA Confederations Cup and multiple Copa América tournaments, including 1997, 1999, and 2007.
