Early Competitive Development
Born on 13 January 1992, Jepkemoi initially focused on the 5,000 metres. Her transition to the steeplechase began unexpectedly at the 2011 All-Africa Games in Maputo. Despite her lack of experience in the discipline, she secured a gold medal with a time of 10:00.50, outperforming Hiwot Ayalew to capture Kenya's inaugural athletics gold of the competition.

By 2012, Jepkemoi shifted her full attention to the steeplechase. Her performance at the Gugl Games in Linz yielded a time of 9:23.53, while her third-place finish at the Weltklasse Zürich meeting earned her initial IAAF Diamond Race points following a lane violation by Sofia Assefa. That same year, she earned a bronze medal at the African Championships in Porto-Novo after overcoming a fall at the water jump. Track & Field News ranked her ninth globally, marking her first entry into the top ten.
Championship Success and Progression
Jepkemoi qualified for the 2013 World Championships in Moscow, where she placed sixth with a personal best of 9:22.05. In 2014, she secured a victory at the Ostrava Golden Spike with a time of 9:22.58. Her career reached a peak at the 2015 World Championships, where she claimed the gold medal. In 2016, she competed in the Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, taking the silver medal with a time of 9:07.12. She concluded her Olympic cycle with a bronze medal in Tokyo.
