Hussein-Ali Montazeri (1922–2009) was a cleric and Deputy Supreme Leader of Iran from 1985 to 1989. Montazeri was born in Najafabad on 22 September 1922. He died in Qom on 20 December 2009, at the age of 87.
Montazeri served as Deputy Supreme Leader of Iran (1985–1989) and Tehran's Friday Prayer Imam (1979–1980). He worked in Irfan and Islamic philosophy. He was attached to Feyziyeh Madrasa and Qom Hawza.
Montazeri was educated at Isfahan Seminary and Qom Hawza.
Montazeri married Mahsoltan Rabani. He had two recorded children, Mohammad Montazeri and Ahmad Montazeri. He is recorded as following Shia Islam. The recorded cause of death is cardiovascular disease.
