Fidel Ramos served as the 12th president of the Philippines, leading the nation from 1992 to 1998 after a career as a five-star general. Early Education and Military Foundations
Born in Lingayen in 1928, Ramos pursued extensive academic training. He attended the University of the Philippines, Mapúa Institute of Technology, and Centro Escolar University before moving to the United States. He graduated from the United States Military Academy in 1950 and later earned a master's degree in civil engineering from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. His academic profile also includes degrees from the National Defense College of the Philippines and Ateneo de Manila University.

Ramos participated in the Korean War as an infantry reconnaissance platoon leader, notably serving during the Battle of Hill Eerie. He later deployed to the Vietnam War as a civil military engineer and chief of staff of the Philippine Civic Action Group. Throughout his tenure, he founded the Philippine Army Special Forces and the Philippine Constabulary Special Action Force.
Political Transition and Presidency
During the administration of Ferdinand Marcos, Ramos served as the head of the Philippine Constabulary. In 1986, he aligned himself with the revolutionary movement that brought Corazon C. Aquino to power. He subsequently served as Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines and Secretary of National Defense from 1988 to 1991. As president, he focused on economic revitalization, later serving as an advisor to his successors.
