Early Development and Training

Born on 22 February 1997 in Guangzhou, Fan began table tennis at the Haizhu District Children’s Palace at age five. Under the guidance of coaches Yang Biyu and Wen Haoguang, he excelled in regional competitions, including the 2004 Xinmiao Cup. By 2006, he had joined the Weilun Sports School, and two years later, he was selected for the People’s Liberation Army sports team after provincial successes.

Rise to Professional Competition

Fan’s professional trajectory accelerated in 2012 when he joined the national team. He secured multiple medals at the Asian Youth Table Tennis Championships and the World Youth Table Tennis Championships that same year. By 2014, he reached world champion status as part of the Chinese men's team in Tokyo, followed by a record-breaking performance in the 2015 Table Tennis Super League, where he maintained a perfect winning record.

Technical Style and Career Milestones

Known for his explosive footwork and powerful loops on both wings, Fan earned the nickname "Little Fatty" due to his build. His competitive resume includes four World Cup singles titles and two World Championship victories. Despite a narrow loss to Ma Long at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, he remained a consistent performer, securing top finishes in major ITTF tournaments throughout his career while studying at Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
