In September 2006, Khaleed reached the final stage of the Malaysian Angkasawan program, being selected as one of two candidates to undergo intensive astronaut training in Star City. He trained alongside Sheikh Muszaphar Shukor to prepare for potential space flight missions as part of a national initiative to advance Malaysian space exploration capabilities.
Military Career and Status
While Sheikh Muszaphar Shukor flew to the International Space Station on board Soyuz TMA-11 in October 2007, Khaleed remained a candidate for future missions contingent on national policy. On October 22, 2007, he received a promotion to the rank of Major within the Malaysian Armed Forces. He concluded his military service in late 2013.
