Fabio Basile

The 66 kg men's judo tournament at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro concluded with Fabio Basile securing the 200th Olympic gold medal in the history of Italian sport. This achievement established his position within the global judo community while marking a significant milestone for his national athletic delegation.

Early Career and Training

Born in 1994 in Rivoli, Italy, Basile developed his career through systematic competition. He represents the Akiyama Settimo judo club, located in Settimo Torinese near Torino. His affiliation with this club remains a central component of his athletic identity, as he serves as the organization's first Olympic champion.

Olympic Competition

Basile has participated in multiple editions of the Summer Olympic Games. His progression as an elite judoka includes appearances at the 2010 Summer Youth Olympics, the 2016 Summer Olympics, and the 2020 Summer Olympics. The 2016 victory on 7 August represents the peak of his competitive record to date.

Recognition and Publication

Following his Olympic performance in 2016, Basile received the Gold Collar for Sports Merit. In that same year, he was appointed Commander of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic. Beyond the mat, Basile transitioned into authorship, releasing his book titled L'impossibile non esiste in 2021 through the publisher Giunti.
