Croatian footballer

Eduardo da Silva, a professional footballer born in Rio de Janeiro on 25 February 1983, established himself as a prolific striker after relocating to Croatia. Naturalized as a Croatian citizen in 2002, he became a central figure for the national team, eventually securing his position as the country's fifth-highest goalscorer on record with 29 international goals.

Early Development and Croatian Rise

Growing up in the Bangu neighbourhood of Rio de Janeiro, Eduardo initiated his football activities at CBF Nova Kennedy and Bangu Atlético Clube. In September 1999, he arrived at Dinamo Zagreb for a trial period, officially joining the youth system in 2000. He made his senior breakthrough in the 2001–02 season. To gain consistent playing time, he was loaned to second-division side Inter Zaprešić during the 2002–03 campaign, where he recorded ten goals in 15 league appearances.

Success at Dinamo Zagreb

Upon returning to Dinamo Zagreb for the 2003–04 season, Eduardo became a mainstay in the first team. He earned the title of Croatian league player of the year in 2004, 2006, and 2007. His dominance peaked during the 2006–07 season when he scored 34 goals in 32 matches, including a hat-trick in the Eternal derby against Hajduk Split. By May 2007, he set an all-time record for goals in a single Croatian league season.

Arsenal Tenure and Injury

In July 2007, Arsenal acquired Eduardo for approximately £7.5 million. He transitioned into the starting lineup by late 2007, scoring notable goals against Everton, West Ham United, and Manchester City. His progress was halted on 23 February 2008, when he suffered a broken left fibula and an open dislocation of his left ankle during a match against Birmingham City. He underwent surgery and later moved to Shakhtar Donetsk in 2010 after three seasons with the London club.

International Career

Eduardo debuted for the Croatia national team on 16 November 2004 during a friendly match against Ireland. Under the guidance of coach Slaven Bilić, he participated in the UEFA Euro 2012 tournament. He was subsequently selected by Niko Kovač to represent Croatia at the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
