Eduardo Arturo Dockendorff Vallejos concluded his professional tenure in 2014 by relocating to a remote mountainous region in the commune of Alto Biobío. This shift from a career spanning architecture and high-level Chilean politics to the study of native forests and piano performance marked the end of decades spent managing public policy and institutional development.
Academic Foundation and International Consultancy
Born in Los Ángeles, Chile, on 22 January 1949, Dockendorff completed his early education at the German School of Los Ángeles. He pursued architecture at the University of Chile, graduating with highest honors in 1976 after beginning his academic career as a lecturer and administrator at the same institution between 1972 and 1978. His expertise expanded through postgraduate studies at the Institute for Regional Science at the University of Karlsruhe in West Germany, which he attended from 1979 to 1982. During a subsequent residency in Bonn until 1989, he collaborated with organizations such as DSE and GTZ on international development projects.

As a member of the Christian Democratic Party, Dockendorff entered the administration of President Ricardo Lagos in 2000 as Undersecretary General of the Presidency. He served in this capacity until 2002 before being appointed Minister Secretary-General of the Presidency in 2003. He held this cabinet position until the conclusion of the Lagos government in March 2006. Following his ministerial service, he transitioned to urban development, acting as principal adviser for the Valparaíso Heritage Protection and Urban Development Programme. This initiative supported the UNESCO designation of Valparaíso as a World Heritage Site.
Administrative and Institutional Leadership
Beyond his political duties, Dockendorff maintained significant roles within Chilean public and academic sectors. In 2008, he became vice-chairman of the board of Metro Regional de Valparaíso, a subsidiary of Empresa de los Ferrocarriles del Estado. His institutional work continued in 2009 as the director of the Institute of Public Affairs at the University of Chile. He expanded his scope in 2011 by joining the board of the Chilean chapter of Transparency International and assuming the presidency of Editorial Universitaria. His public policy contributions include involvement with Corporación de Altos Estudios Sociales Foro Valparaíso, ProyectAmérica, Corporación Chile XXI, and the Chilean Society for Public Policy.
