The son of Gory Guerrero, Eddie grew up immersed in the wrestling culture of El Paso. He graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1985 before pursuing higher education at the University of New Mexico and New Mexico Highlands University. Although he attended on an athletic scholarship for collegiate wrestling, an ankle injury cut his academic and amateur career short, leading him to follow his father and brothers into professional wrestling.

Guerrero debuted in 1986 and eventually honed his skills in Mexico for the Asistencia Asesoría y Administración (AAA) promotion. He gained prominence alongside Art Barr as part of the villainous stable Los Gringos Locos. The duo captured the AAA World Tag Team Championship in 1994. Concurrently, he performed in Japan for New Japan Pro-Wrestling under the Black Tiger persona, participating in numerous tournaments, including the Top of the Super Juniors.
Mainstream American Career
After a brief stint in Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW), Guerrero joined World Championship Wrestling (WCW) in 1995, where he held the United States Heavyweight and Cruiserweight titles. In 2000, he moved to the World Wrestling Federation (WWF), later WWE, alongside colleagues like Chris Benoit and Dean Malenko. His tenure was marked by both professional triumphs, including a WWE Championship win at No Way Out 2004, and personal challenges related to substance abuse.
Legacy and Final Years
Throughout his career, Guerrero utilized the Latino Heat persona, emphasizing a resourceful and crafty wrestling style. His professional contributions earned him inductions into the AAA Hall of Fame, the Wrestling Observer Newsletter Hall of Fame, and the WWE Hall of Fame. Guerrero passed away on November 13, 2005, in Minneapolis and is interred at Green Acres Memorial Park.
