Christina Applegate

Christina Applegate began her career at three months old, appearing in a commercial for Playtex baby bottles. Her long television tenure includes roles in sitcoms, voice acting projects, and stage performances. She secured national recognition in the late 1980s and transitioned successfully into mainstream film comedies, often balancing acting duties with production responsibilities across various projects.

Early Television and Breakthrough

Born in Hollywood in 1971, Applegate trained as a dancer before entering the television industry. Her debut occurred in 1972 on the soap opera Days of Our Lives. Throughout the 1980s, she appeared in series such as Grace Kelly and Heart of the City. Her breakthrough role came as Kelly Bundy in the Fox sitcom Married... with Children, a character she played from 1987 until 1997. During this time, she also hosted Saturday Night Live and MADtv.

Film and Stage Contributions

Applegate's film portfolio spans diverse genres. She starred in the 1991 black comedy Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead and featured in Mars Attacks! and The Big Hit. In 2004, she portrayed Veronica Corningstone in Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy. Her theatre work includes a Broadway debut in the 2005 musical revival of Sweet Charity, which earned her a Theatre World Award and a nomination for a Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical.

Production and Recognition

Beyond performing, Applegate worked as a television producer for several of her projects, including Jesse, Samantha Who?, and Up All Night. She earned a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series for her role as Amy Green in Friends in 2003. She served as a producer on the dark tragicomedy series Dead to Me, which aired between 2019 and 2022.

Health and Later Career

Applegate was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in August 2021. Following the diagnosis, she announced a shift away from on-screen appearances to focus on voice acting work. In 2026, she published a memoir that explored themes of resilience and self-acceptance, subsequently becoming a New York Times Best Seller.
