International Volleyball Career
Tait participated in three consecutive Summer Olympic Games. Her team finished sixth in 1980 and fourth in 1984 before securing the silver medal in 1988. Her competitive history also includes multiple successes at the Pan American Games, where she earned a silver medal in Caguas in 1979, a bronze in Caracas in 1983, and another silver in Indianapolis in 1987. Recognition for these contributions followed in 2005 with her induction into the International Volleyball Hall of Fame.

In 1998, Tait entered the political sphere by serving as a municipal councillor in Villa María del Triunfo for the Vamos Vecino party. By 2000, she was elected to the Congress of the Republic of Peru representing Perú Posible, distinguishing herself as the first Afro-Peruvian elected to the national legislature. Following the resignation of President Alberto Fujimori, she won reelection for the 2001–2006 term.
Policy and Public Service
During her time in Congress, Tait focused on legislative initiatives regarding athletic infrastructure. She sponsored multiple bills intended to expand sports programming, aiming to provide resources for both school children and elite athletes. Although she did not secure reelection in 2006, she returned to the legislative body in 2011. She served until 2016, finishing her final term under the Peruvians for Change party. In 2023, she became a member of the International Olympic Committee.
