Casey Neistat

American YouTube personality, filmmaker and entrepreneur

The three-minute film iPod's Dirty Secret brought international attention to Casey Neistat in 2003, after he criticized Apple for its lack of a battery replacement program for portable media players. This project set a precedent for his career in independent filmmaking, blending consumer activism with a distinctive, often confrontational visual style that garnered national media coverage.

Early Development and Filmmaking Foundations

Born in 1981 in New London, Connecticut, Neistat spent his youth in a working-class environment. Before establishing a career in New York City, he held various manual labour positions, including working as a dishwasher and a short-order cook in Mystic. By 2001, he began collaborating with his brother, Van Neistat, and the artist Tom Sachs to produce films regarding sculpture installations. This period solidified his technical approach, leading to the creation of the Science Experiments series in 2004, which gained recognition at the 26th São Paulo Biennial.
