Peyton moved into commercial studio filmmaking with the 2010 project Cats and Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore. He subsequently directed the 2012 sequel Journey 2: The Mysterious Island, which grossed $325.9 million and began his recurring professional partnership with Dwayne Johnson. This collaboration continued with the 2015 disaster film San Andreas and the 2018 video game adaptation Rampage. His other directorial credits during this era include the 2015 horror film Incarnate.
Television Production and Future Projects
In 2019, Peyton expanded his work in the television sector as an executive producer, writer, director, and co-creator of the Netflix series Daybreak, which debuted on October 24. His development slate remains active, with reports identifying him as a writer, producer, and director for projects including a film adaptation of the Bakugan series, announced in February 2025 in collaboration with Spin Master Entertainment. He has also been linked to potential adaptations of the Just Cause video game series and the Malignant Man property.
