Bonaventura Cavalieri was born at Milan in 1598. His recorded nationality is Italy. He was educated at University of Pisa.
This was the period in which observation began to outrank inherited authority, and in which printing let a result reach readers who would never meet its author.
He held appointments at University of Bologna, where the work centred on astrology, mathematics and physics.
