Early Career at West Ham
Moore joined West Ham United in 1956 and completed his progression through the youth system before debuting for the first team on 8 September 1958 against Manchester United. He donned the number six shirt after replacing Malcolm Allison. Over the next sixteen years, he played more than 600 games for the club, securing the FA Cup in 1964 and the European Cup Winners' Cup in 1965. His dedication was reflected in his four selections as West Ham Player of the Year.

After debuting for England in 1962 against Peru, Moore rose quickly to leadership. In 1963, he became the youngest man to captain England at the age of 22. Coach Alf Ramsey cemented his role as permanent captain in 1964. By the time of his retirement from international football in 1973, he had earned 108 caps, a record for an England outfield player at that time. He was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire in 1967.
Legacy and Recognition
Moore was the first footballer to receive the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Award, which he won in 1966. Following his death in 1993 in London, his legacy continued to be honored through various tributes. In 2002, he was inducted into the English Football Hall of Fame. West Ham United officially retired his number 6 jersey in 2008. He is buried at Putney Vale Cemetery.
