Education and Early Practice
Van Berkel completed his architectural training at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie and the Architectural Association School of Architecture. In 1988, he co-founded Van Berkel & Bos Architectuurbureau in Amsterdam alongside Caroline Bos. Other projects include the Canaletto Tower in London and the Singapore University of Architecture and Design.
Academic and Theoretical Contributions
Beyond his built work, van Berkel has maintained a significant career as a university teacher. He served as the dean at the Städelschule in Frankfurt from 2001 to 2016. His teaching methodology focuses on integrating virtual organization with material engineering.
