Early Career and Raja Club Athletic
Banoun began his professional development at Raja Club Athletic, contributing to a 2012–13 Botola title win. To gain consistent playing time, he underwent loan spells at Wydad de Fès and RS Berkane before returning to Raja in 2015. His tenure included securing the 2017 Moroccan Throne Cup, where he scored a crucial penalty, and winning the 2018 CAF Confederation Cup. By the time he departed the club in 2020, he had accumulated titles including the 2019–20 Botola and the 2019–20 Arab Club Champions Cup.

In November 2020, Banoun transitioned to the Egyptian club Al Ahly. During his time there, he participated in the FIFA Club World Cup, where the team secured a bronze medal after defeating Palmeiras. His trophy collection expanded rapidly to include the 2020 Egypt Cup and the 2020–21 CAF Champions League. He further solidified his reputation by defeating his former club, Raja, on penalties to claim a tournament victory.
International Representation
Banoun debuted for the Morocco national team on 7 October 2017 in a 3–0 FIFA World Cup qualification victory against Gabon at the Stade Mohammed V. He was selected for the 2018 FIFA World Cup squad in Russia and later named in the 26-man group for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. Earlier in his career, he helped secure a gold medal at the 2013 Islamic Solidarity Games by defeating Indonesia in the final.
Transitions and Return
Following his spell in Egypt, Banoun moved to Qatar SC in July 2022 on a three-year agreement.
