In March 1983, Rose joined the band Rapidfire, later recording a demo at Telstar Studios. He subsequently co-founded Hollywood Rose with Izzy Stradlin. By March 1985, he collaborated with Tracii Guns to merge separate acts, ultimately forming the core lineup of Guns N' Roses alongside Slash, Duff McKagan, Steven Adler, and Stradlin. The ensemble secured a contract with Geffen Records in 1986.
Commercial Peaks and Volatility
The band achieved international success with their 1987 debut, Appetite for Destruction, which surpassed 30 million units sold. Rose later oversaw the release of the twin albums Use Your Illusion I and II in 1991, which experienced high chart performance. His career during this timeframe was marked by notable public friction, including involvement in the Riverport Riot and widely publicized tensions with other contemporary musical acts.
Later Career and Tours
Following a period of relative public absence, Rose returned in 2001 with a revised configuration of Guns N' Roses, eventually issuing Chinese Democracy in 2008. Although inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2012, he declined to participate in the ceremony. In 2016, he reunited with former members Slash and Duff McKagan for the Not in This Lifetime... Tour, while also serving as a fill-in vocalist for AC/DC.
