Andriy Pyatov officially retired from professional football on 10 July 2023, concluding a career marked by over 500 appearances for club and country. Born in Kropyvnytskyi in 1984, the Ukrainian goalkeeper served as a central figure for Shakhtar Donetsk for over a decade and represented the national team more than 100 times throughout his tenure.
Early Development and Vorskla Poltava
Pyatov began his involvement in football as a teenager with the amateur club Artemida in 2000. He moved to Poltava in 2001, joining the junior and reserve setups of Vorskla Poltava. His professional debut occurred for Vorskla-2 on 25 March 2001. By 18 June 2003, he made his first appearance for the senior squad in the Vyshcha Liha, securing a 1-1 draw against Illichivets Mariupol.

Shakhtar Donetsk acquired Pyatov in December 2006 for approximately £880,000. Following a loan period back at Vorskla, he emerged as the primary goalkeeper during the 2007-08 season. He played a vital role in the 2008-09 UEFA Cup campaign, helping the team reach the final against Werder Bremen. Over his tenure, he achieved numerous domestic titles, including multiple league championships and super cups. In 2015, he set a European record for stopped penalties.
International Representation
Pyatov earned 102 caps for the Ukraine national team between 2007 and 2022. Earlier, he was part of the squad that reached the 2006 World Cup quarter-finals and represented the U-21 team in 20 matches. He set a national record for consecutive minutes without conceding a goal in 2013 and concluded his international career on 11 June 2022, in a victory against Armenia.
Transition to Coaching
Following his retirement from active play, Pyatov transitioned into a coaching role. He currently serves as the goalkeeping coach for Shakhtar Donetsk. His professional longevity was recognized with the Order for Courage 3rd Class of Ukraine, and he also served as the first brand ambassador for the financial institution sportbank.
