Larijani rose through the political ranks as a brigadier general of the IRGC. His early administrative tenure included serving as the Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance from 1992 to 1994. Subsequently, he managed the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting for a decade, between 1994 and 2004, overseeing the state’s primary media apparatus before transitioning into high-level security advisory roles.
Parliamentary and Security Roles
From 2008 to 2020, Larijani served as a member of the Islamic Consultative Assembly, holding the position of Speaker throughout that term. His involvement with the Expediency Discernment Council occurred in two distinct periods, spanning 1997 to 2008 and 2020 to 2026. Simultaneously, he held the secretaryship of the Supreme National Security Council during two intervals, specifically 2005–2007 and finally 2025–2026.
Final Tenure and Death
During his final months in office, Larijani was positioned at the center of the Iranian government's security apparatus. His career ended on 17 March 2026, when he was killed in an airstrike in Tehran. He was subsequently buried at the Fatima Masumeh Shrine.
