Early Life and Education
Born in 1959 at Pekan, Abdullah is the eldest son of Sultan Ahmad Shah and Tengku Ampuan Afzan. His primary and secondary education took place in Pahang, including attendance at St. Thomas Secondary School. He later moved to the United Kingdom, where he studied at Aldenham School from 1975 to 1977. He pursued further academic development at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, Worcester College, and Queen Elizabeth College, completing a diploma in international relations and diplomacy between 1980 and 1981.

Abdullah received his initial commission as a second lieutenant from Queen Elizabeth II in 1979. He progressed through the ranks of the Royal Armoured Corps, reaching the rank of captain in 1980 and major in 1987. His later service included an assignment to the 505 Territorial Army Regiment, where he served as a lieutenant colonel and then colonel. By 2004, he had achieved the military rank of brigadier general.
Royal Responsibilities
Appointed as the Tengku Mahkota of Pahang on 1 July 1975, Abdullah twice served as the state's regent before his formal accession. The first regency spanned from 1979 to 1984, while the second occurred between 2016 and 2019 due to his father's failing health. Following his father's abdication, he was proclaimed the sixth sultan of modern Pahang in January 2019. During his subsequent service as the national monarch, he maintained roles including Chancellor of Universiti Teknologi MARA.
