Two goals scored during the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil cemented the legacy of attacking midfielder Abdelmoumene Djabou, who shares the record for most goals scored by an Algerian player in the tournament. Born in Sétif on 31 January 1987, he emerged from the local youth system to become a prominent figure in North African club football.
Early Career and Developmental Loans
Djabou began his professional journey within the ranks of his hometown club, ES Sétif. After making his senior debut during the 2004–05 season, he experienced various loan spells to gain match experience. His path included a stint at MC El Eulma during the 2006–07 campaign and a brief, paperwork-stalled move to the Swiss club FC Sion in 2008. From 2009 to 2010, he played for USM El Harrach, where he netted seven goals in 43 appearances, further establishing his utility as a midfielder.

Selected for the national team in 2010 under coach Abdelhak Benchikha, Djabou participated in the 2011 African Nations Championship in Sudan, where he assisted the squad in reaching the semi-finals. His international profile grew significantly during the 2014 FIFA World Cup. He scored in the 4–2 victory against South Korea and added a late goal in the 2–1 extra time defeat against Germany. By January 2018, he had earned 13 international caps and scored three goals for his country, including his participation in the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations.
Club Achievements and Honors
Djabou returned to ES Sétif on multiple occasions, winning the Algerian Ligue Professionnelle 1 in 2008–09, 2011–12, and 2016–17. His domestic silverware also includes the 2011–12 Algerian Cup and several regional titles, such as the 2007–08 Arab Champions League and the 2010 North African Cup Winners Cup. During a successful tenure with the Tunisian club Africain from 2012 to 2015, he secured the 2014–15 Tunisian Ligue Professionnelle 1 title. He later joined MC Alger on 15 June 2019.
