His tenure as the leader of Sudan lasted from 6 April 1985 until 6 May 1986. During this interval, he oversaw the state during a critical transitional phase. Upon the conclusion of national elections, he followed through on a pledge to transfer control to the newly formed government, which was led by head of state Ahmed al-Mirghani and prime minister Sadiq al-Mahdi.
Post-Political Activities
Following his exit from government office, he maintained public involvement through religious and civil organizations. In 1987, he assumed the role of Chairman of the Islamic Call Organization. His efforts in this field were formally acknowledged in 2004 when he was awarded the King Faisal International Prize in Service to Islam.
Death and Legacy
He passed away on 18 October 2018 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, at the age of 84. The cause of death was attributed to natural causes.
