Kim Min-jeong was born on January 1, 2001, in Busan, South Korea. She was selected for SM Entertainment's trainee programme at fifteen after participating in the company's open audition system. Her trainee period — four years inside SM, during which she trained primarily as a vocalist and dancer — ended with her debut as aespa's main vocalist and lead dancer on November 17, 2020.

Within aespa, Winter's role is the main vocalist — the K-pop industry term for the member who carries the highest-difficulty vocal parts and is given the most extended solo singing on each track. Her vocal range — a soprano with strong breath control and an unusually clean upper register — became, by aespa's third single, one of the group's identifying audio elements. In late 2024, Winter underwent surgery for the removal of a pneumothorax (collapsed lung), a condition she had been managing privately for some months. By 2025, aespa had become one of the highest-revenue K-pop girl groups, with the announced "Synk: Parallel Line" tour and continued album sales. Winter's solo solo work remained limited; her primary 2025 release was through aespa's continued single and album cycle.
