The golden buzzer
Season 11 spread its golden buzzers across two stages. The main panel and host used theirs at the auditions, on Laura Bretan, Grace VanderWaal, Sal Valentinetti, Calysta Bevier and Dorothy Williams. The guest judges used theirs later, at the Judge Cuts, on Jon Dorenbos, Sofie Dossi, Malevo and Jayna Brown.
The buzzer sends an act straight through and stops the round. For Brown it meant skipping the cut that removes most of the field, and arriving in the live quarter-finals as one of the acts the show had already marked.
The run
From there the results tables are plain. She advanced from the quarter-finals in the results show of 27 July 2016 and was eliminated in the semi-finals on 7 September.
That places her in the last twenty or so of the season. It is the round that decides the final ten, and it is where the majority of the strongest acts of any given year stop. The gap between a semi-final exit and a place in the final is one public vote, and on American network television that vote is counted in millions.
The season around her
Season 11 ran from 31 May to 14 September 2016 on NBC, with Nick Cannon hosting and Howie Mandel, Mel B, Heidi Klum and Simon Cowell judging. George Lopez, Reba McEntire, Ne-Yo and Louis Tomlinson sat in as guest judges at the Judge Cuts. The finals were staged at the Dolby Theatre.
It was the year of Grace VanderWaal, the twelve-year-old singer and ukulele player who won, with the mentalist duo The Clairvoyants second and the magician Jon Dorenbos third. Laura Bretan, an opera singer of fourteen, also reached the final. Brown was one of several teenage singers in an unusually young season, and she did not get past the semi-final round.
What is documented — and what is not
Firm: her age of fourteen, her home town of Baltimore, her act as a singer, the golden buzzer from a guest judge, her quarter-final advancement on 27 July 2016 and her elimination on 7 September.
Not documented in the sources gathered here: the songs she performed, which guest judge pressed the buzzer, her family, her school, any release or contract, and anything since September 2016. The research note for this page flagged that only a results table was reachable, and that limitation is carried through honestly rather than covered over.
What the buzzer does and does not promise
Four of season 11's nine golden buzzer acts reached the final, and one of them, Grace VanderWaal, won the series outright. The other five did not, and Brown is in that group. The gesture guarantees a place in the live rounds and nothing beyond it.
That is the honest summary of her season: a singer the show chose to promote, who then met the public vote and stopped one round short of the final. Her name does not carry a Wikipedia article of its own, and the record of what she did next has not been written in any source gathered here.
