The Golden Buzzer
America's Got Talent gives each judge one Golden Buzzer per season, a device that sends an act directly to the live shows regardless of the other judges. In 2016 Simon Cowell used his on a 16-year-old from Ohio who had come through cancer treatment.
The moment became one of the most replayed in the programme's history, and Talent Recap's later account described the Golden Buzzer star who had moved Cowell to tears. She went on to the semi-finals of season 11, the furthest stage she reached.
A survivor, on television
Bevier competed openly as a cancer survivor, and that context was part of the audition rather than something disclosed afterwards. Talent shows have an uneasy relationship with such stories, and the criticism is familiar: that an illness can carry a performance further than a voice would.
Her record answers that in the only way available. She reached the semi-finals of a competition in which the audience votes, she has continued to release music in the decade since, and she was invited back for the All-Stars series, which is selected on the strength of the original act.
Caly Bevier, recording artist
She has worked professionally under the name Caly Bevier. Talent Recap reported a new single released on Valentine's Day 2023, and the same year she returned to the franchise for America's Got Talent All-Stars.
NBC's own retrospective on Golden Buzzer acts, published in 2025 alongside the twentieth season, recorded her passing a million Spotify streams in 2024. For an artist whose first national exposure came from a talent show at 16, a sustained streaming audience eight years later is the meaningful number.
What the record documents
The dates and placings are well established: season 11, 2016, Golden Buzzer from Cowell, semi-finalist, All-Stars in 2023, a million streams by 2024. Her hometown is given as Grand Rapids, Ohio in the programme's season records.
Several details commonly attached to her online are not confirmed by the sources used here, including the specific song she sang at her audition. Where this page cannot confirm something, it says so rather than repeating it.
What a Golden Buzzer is worth
The Golden Buzzer is the most valuable thing an act can receive on America's Got Talent, and also the most double-edged. It guarantees a live slot and a large audience, and it arrives with a narrative attached that the performer did not write and cannot easily shed. Many recipients are remembered for the moment rather than for anything they did afterwards.
The test of whether it was worth anything is what happens in the years after the confetti. Bevier's answer is a modest, real one: a recording career under her own name, an All-Stars invitation seven years later, and a streaming audience that has kept growing. That is a working musician's record rather than a viral one, and it is considerably harder to build.
