Ginwoo Onodera is a Japanese street skateboarder from Yokohama in Kanagawa prefecture, born in 2010. He grew up riding Shin-Yokohama Skatepark on the edge of the Tokyo conurbation, one of the training grounds behind Japan's dominance in Olympic street skating.

He announced himself at X Games Japan in 2023, winning Skateboard Street gold on his rookie appearance at 13 years and 2 months old — the youngest gold medallist in the discipline's history. He followed it with bronze at X Games Chiba in 2024 and X Games Osaka in 2025.

He reached the Paris 2024 Olympic Games at 14, having podiumed at three Olympic qualifier events, and finished 14th in the men's street final. He turned professional for Jart Skateboards in April 2026.

The 2026 X Games League season was his most dominant. He won men's skateboard street at New Orleans, at Sacramento and at Chiba, and added a silver and a bronze in Best Trick — making him only the second athlete to win three Street golds in a single calendar year.

He has medalled in eight of his ten X Games starts, with five golds among them. Tony Hawk has described the technicality of his runs by saying he skates as if he were in a video game.

“He skates like he's in a video game.”

Ginwoo Onodera matters because he answered the question every teenage champion faces. The X Games gold at 13 was a record; the three golds in one 2026 season, against a field that had three years to adjust to him, was proof of a competitor rather than a phenomenon. Street skating rewards consistency under pressure more than any single trick, and he has now medalled in eight of ten starts.
