Glazkov attained the rank of major general in the Air Force during his long-term affiliation with the space program. After his time on Soyuz 24, he received the title of Hero of the Soviet Union. His expertise was formalized through his 1974 doctorate in technical sciences. He served as the first Deputy Chief of the Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center starting in 1989, concluding this tenure in May 2000.
Literary Contributions
Beyond his operational duties, Glazkov authored several works that analyzed the realities of space flight. He published the technical guide Outside Orbiting Spacecraft in 1977, followed by The World Around Us in 1986. His engagement with science fiction resulted in the 1987 publication of The Black Silence, a novel featuring illustrations by fellow cosmonaut Vladimir Dzhanibekov.
Honors and Later Life
Glazkov received numerous awards, including the Order of Lenin, the Order of the Red Star, and the Order for Merit to the Fatherland, 4th class. He retired from the cosmonaut corps in January 1982 and eventually died in Moscow in 2008, where he was buried in the Moscow Oblast.
