From 1908 until 1934, Weygandt served as the director of the Staatskrankenanstalt Friedrichsberg, an insane asylum located in Hamburg. In 1919, he concurrently took a position as a professor of psychiatry at the University of Hamburg, a role he maintained until 1934. His responsibilities involved overseeing patient care and clinical research within the Hamburg hospital system.
Academic Contributions and Ideology
In 1901, he authored Atlas und Grundriss der Psychiatrie. This publication later served as a primary source for photographs used in the Szondi test, a psychological assessment developed by Leopold Szondi. Beyond his medical scholarship, Weygandt held positions regarding political and cultural issues of his era, including his rejection of Expressionism and other modern art movements, which he characterized as degenerate.
Final Years
Weygandt concluded his career in the mid-1930s. He remained a resident of his birthplace and place of death, Wiesbaden, until he died on 22 January 1939. At the time of his death, he was sixty-nine years old.
