The selection process for cosmonauts brought Zudov into the programme on 23 October 1965. His primary mission, Soyuz 23, took place from 14 to 16 October 1976. This two-day mission served as the central component of his active flight experience. Following his return, he continued in his role until his formal retirement from the service on 14 May 1987.
Honours and Legacy
Zudov received significant recognition for his service to the Soviet state and the aerospace sector. In 1976, he was named a Hero of the Soviet Union, a Pilot-Cosmonaut of the USSR, and awarded the Order of Lenin. Other decorations included the Jubilee Medal in Commemoration of the 100th Anniversary of the Birth of Vladimir Ilyich Lenin, the Medal for Merit in Space Exploration, and the Jubilee Medal in Commemoration of the 850th Anniversary of Moscow. He was also an Honoured Master of Sports of the USSR.
Death and Burial
Vyacheslav Zudov died on 12 June 2024 at the age of 82. His life concluded after a period of retirement following a long career in aviation and space exploration. He was buried on 14 June 2024 at the Federal Military Memorial Cemetery.
